Margaret Bondfield is appointed Minister of Labour. She is the first woman appointed to the Cabinet of the United Kingdom. (8. June 1929)

President Calvin Coolidge signs an Executive Order establishing the 96,000 acre Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. (26. February 1929)

RMS Queen Mary is ordered from John Brown & Company Shipbuilding and Engineering by Cunard Line. (3. April 1929)

In Hollywood, California, the first Academy Awards are awarded. (16. May 1929)

Wilfred Rhodes takes his 4000th first-class wicket during a performance of 9 for 39 at Leyton; he is the only player in history to have reached that plateau. (14. May 1929)

An agreement brokered by U.S. Ambassador Dwight Whitney Morrow ends the Cristero War in Mexico. (21. June 1929)

The first talking Mickey Mouse cartoon, "The Karnival Kid", is released. (31. May 1929)

The Kellogg–Briand Pact, renouncing war as an instrument of foreign policy, goes into effect (it is first signed in Paris on August 27, 1928 by most leading world powers). (24. July 1929)

Saint Valentine's Day Massacre: Seven people, six of them gangster rivals of Al Capone's gang, are murdered in Chicago, Illinois. (14. February 1929)

Fascist Italy and the Vatican sign the Lateran Treaty. (11. February 1929)

Indian Independence Movement: At the Delhi Central Assembly, Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt throw handouts and bombs to court arrest. (8. April 1929)
