12th Street Riot: in Detroit, Michigan, one of the worst riots in United States history begins on 12th Street in the predominantly African American inner city. It will leave 43 killed, 342 injured and 1,400 buildings burned. (23. July 1967)
Venera program: Venera 4 is launched (it will become the first space probe to enter another planet's atmosphere and successfully return data). (12. June 1967)
Vietnam War: off the coast of North Vietnam the USS Forrestal catches on fire in the worst U.S. naval disaster since World War II, killing 134. (29. July 1967)
Thurgood Marshall is sworn in as the first African-American justice of United States Supreme Court. (2. October 1967)
Protests in West Berlin against the arrival of the Shah of Iran turn into riots, during which Benno Ohnesorg is killed by a police officer. His death results in the founding of the terrorist group Movement 2 June. (2. June 1967)
