Napoleonic Wars: Austrian General Mack surrenders his army to the Grand Army of Napoleon at the Battle of Ulm. 30,000 prisoners are captured and 10,000 casualties inflicted on the losers. (19. October 1805)

Napoleonic Wars: Battle of Trafalgar: A British fleet led by Vice Admiral Lord Nelson defeats a combined French and Spanish fleet off the coast of Spain under Admiral Villeneuve. It signals almost the end of French maritime power and leaves Britain's navy unchallenged until the 20th century. (21. October 1805)

A fire consumes large portions of Detroit in the Michigan Territory. (11. June 1805)

Napoleonic Wars: A Franco-Spanish fleet recaptures Diamond Rock, an uninhabited island at the entrance to the bay leading to Fort-de-France, from the British. (2. June 1805)

The U.S. Congress organizes the Michigan Territory. (30. June 1805)

First Barbary War: Yusuf Karamanli signs a treaty ending the hostilities between Tripolitania and the United States. (10. June 1805)

Lewis and Clark Expedition: scouting ahead of the expedition, Meriwether Lewis and four companions sight the Great Falls of the Missouri River. (13. June 1805)

Battle of Elchingen, France defeats Austria. (14. October 1805)

Napoleonic Wars: War of the Third Coalition – Battle of Cape Finisterre – an inconclusive naval action is fought between a combined French and Spanish fleet under Admiral Pierre-Charles Villeneuve of Spain and a British fleet under Admiral Robert Calder. (22. July 1805)
