The playwright, poet, and novelist Oscar Wilde is convicted of "committing acts of gross indecency with other male persons" and sentenced to serve two years in prison. (25. May 1895)

Booker T. Washington delivers the "Atlanta Compromise" address. (18. September 1895)

In Saint Petersburg, Russian scientist Alexander Stepanovich Popov demonstrates to the Russian Physical and Chemical Society his invention, the Popov lightning detector — a primitive radio receiver. In some parts of the former Soviet Union the anniversary of this day is celebrated as Radio Day. (7. May 1895)

The inaugural run of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's Royal Blue from Washington, D.C., to New York, New York, the first U.S. passenger train to use electric locomotives. (27. June 1895)

John Brallier became the first openly professional American football player, when he was paid $10 by David Berry, to play for the Latrobe Athletic Association in a 12-0 win over the Jeanette Athletic Association. (3. September 1895)

At the Swedish-Norwegian Club in Paris, Alfred Nobel signs his last will and testament, setting aside his estate to establish the Nobel Prize after he dies. (27. November 1895)

The first U.S. Open Men's Golf Championship administered by the United States Golf Association is played at the Newport Country Club in Newport, Rhode Island. (4. October 1895)

Eulmi incident- Queen Min of Joseon is assassinated by Japanese infiltrators inside and her corpse burnt by Korean people Gyeongbok Palace. (8. October 1895)

Doukhobors burn their weapons as a protest against conscription by the Tsarist Russian government. (29. June 1895)
