The Diexi earthquake strikes Mao County, Sichuan, China and kills 9,000 people. (25. August 1933)

Loggers cause a forest fire in the Coast Range of Oregon, later known as the first forest fire of the Tillamook Burn. It is extinguished on September 5, after destroying 240,000 acres (970 km2). (14. August 1933)

The film King Kong opens at New York's Radio City Music Hall. (2. March 1933)

Great Depression: Franklin D. Roosevelt addresses the nation for the first time as President of the United States. This is also the first of his "fireside chats". (12. March 1933)

New Deal: The U.S. Federal Securities Act is signed into law requiring the registration of securities with the Federal Trade Commission. (27. May 1933)

U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs two executive orders: 6101 to establish the Civilian Conservation Corps, and 6102 "forbidding the Hoarding of Gold Coin, Gold Bullion, and Gold Certificates" by U.S. citizens. (5. April 1933)

Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler ordered the creation of Dachau Concentration Camp as Chief of Police of Munich and appointed Theodor Eicke as the camp commandant. (20. March 1933)

Austrian Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss keeps members of the National Council from convening, starting the austrofascist dictatorship. (15. March 1933)

The Nazi eugenics begins with the proclamation of the Law for the Prevention of Hereditarily Diseased Offspring that calls for the compulsory sterilization of any citizen who suffers from alleged genetic disorders. (14. July 1933)

New Deal: President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs an act creating the Tennessee Valley Authority. (18. May 1933)

The Agricultural Adjustment Act is enacted to restrict agricultural production by paying farmers subsidies. (12. May 1933)

Nazi Germany begins its persecution of Jehovah's Witnesses by shutting down the Watch Tower Society office in Magdeburg. (24. April 1933)

The U.S. Congress abrogates the United States' use of the gold standard by enacting a joint resolution (48 Stat. 112) nullifying the right of creditors to demand payment in gold. (5. June 1933)

An earthquake in Long Beach, California kills 115 people and causes an estimated $40 million in damage. (10. March 1933)

The first Major League Baseball All-Star Game is played in Chicago's Comiskey Park. The American League defeated the National League 4–2. (6. July 1933)
