The Wright Flyer flown by Orville Wright, with Lieutenant Thomas Selfridge as passenger, crashes killing Selfridge. He becomes the first airplane fatality. (17. September 1908)

The General Motors Corporation is founded. (16. September 1908)

Harvard University votes to establish the Harvard Business School. (8. April 1908)

The Bulgarian Declaration of Independence is proclaimed. (22. September 1908)

SMS Blücher, the last armored cruiser to be built by the German Imperial Navy, launches. (11. April 1908)

Grand Canyon National Monument is created. (11. January 1908)

The Rhoads Opera House fire in Boyertown, Pennsylvania kills 171 people. (13. January 1908)

American diplomat Durham Stevens is attacked by Korean assassins Jeon Myeong-un and Jang In-hwan, leading to his death in a hospital two days later. (23. March 1908)

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is released from prison by Jan C. Smuts after being tried and sentenced to 2 months in jail earlier in the month. (30. January 1908)

For the first time, a ball is dropped in New York, New York's Times Square to signify the start of the New Year at midnight. (1. January 1908)

Budi Utomo organization is founded in Dutch East Indies, beginning the Indonesian National Awakening. (20. May 1908)

Wilbur Wright makes his first flight at a racecourse at Le Mans, France. It is the Wright Brothers' first public flight. (8. August 1908)

The Collinwood school fire, Collinwood near Cleveland, Ohio, kills 174 people. (4. March 1908)

Natural Bridges National Monument is established in Utah. (16. April 1908)
