The civil war in Chad begins when rebel groups, allegedly backed by neighbouring Sudan, launch an attack in Adré. (18. December 2005)

The second Chinese human spaceflight Shenzhou 6 launched carrying Fèi Jùnlóng and Niè Hǎishèng for five days in orbit. (12. October 2005)

Bombings in Delhi kill more than 60. (29. October 2005)

2005 Kashmir earthquake: Thousands of people are killed by a magnitude 7.6 earthquake in parts of Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. (8. October 2005)

Riots begin in Paris after the deaths of two Muslim teenagers. (27. October 2005)

Cronulla riots: Thousands of White Australians demonstrate against ethnic violence resulting in a riot against anyone thought to be Lebanese (and many who are not) in Cronulla, New South Wales, Australia. These are followed up by retaliatory ethnic attacks on Cronulla. (11. December 2005)

Ethan Allen boating accident: The Ethan Allen tour boat capsizes on Lake George in Upstate New York, killing twenty people. (2. October 2005)

Hurricane Wilma becomes the most intense Atlantic hurricane on record with a minimum pressure of 882 mb. (19. October 2005)

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is elected president of Liberia and becomes the first woman to lead an African country. (23. November 2005)
