The United Auto Workers strike 92 General Motors plants in 50 cities to back up worker demands for a 30-percent raise. (21. November 1945)

The Chinese Communist Party and the Kuomintang signed a principle agreement in Chongqing about the future of post-war China. Later, the pact is commonly referred to as the Double-Ten Agreement. (10. October 1945)

Australia joins the United Nations. (1. November 1945)

The Food and Agriculture Organization is founded in Quebec City, Canada. (16. October 1945)

World War II: The former premier of Vichy France Pierre Laval is shot by a firing squad for treason. (15. October 1945)

Venezuela joins the United Nations. (15. November 1945)

Nuremberg Trials: Trials against 24 Nazi war criminals start at the Palace of Justice at Nuremberg. (20. November 1945)

Archbishop Damaskinos of Athens becomes Prime Minister of Greece between the pull-out of the German occupation force in 1944 and the return of King Georgios II to Greece. (17. October 1945)

World War II: Desmond Doss is the first conscientious objector to receive the U.S. Medal of Honor. (12. October 1945)

Heavy fighting in Surabaya between Indonesian nationalists and returning colonialists after World War II, today celebrated as Heroes' Day (Hari Pahlawan). (10. November 1945)

A massive number of people, headed by CGT, gather in the Plaza de Mayo in Argentina to demand Juan Peron's release. It calls "el día de la lealtad peronista" (peronista loyalty day) (17. October 1945)

Argentine military officer and politician Juan Perón marries actress Eva Duarte. (18. October 1945)

A group of the Venezuelan Armed Forces, led by Mario Vargas, Marcos Pérez Jiménez and Carlos Delgado Chalbaud, stages a coup d'état against then president Isaías Medina Angarita, who is overthrown by the end of the day. (18. October 1945)
