Crown Prince Fuling, later Emperor Zhao of Han, is named as Emperor Wu of Han's successor and heir to the throne. Emperor Wu dies two days later. (27. March 87. BC)

Roman Emperor Caligula accepts the titles of the Principate, entitled to him by the Senate. (28. March 37)

Julius Caesar defeats Caecilius Metellus Scipio and Marcus Porcius Cato (Cato the Younger) in the battle of Thapsus. (6. April 46. BC)

Battle of Forum Gallorum: Mark Antony, besieging Caesar's assassin Decimus Brutus in Mutina, defeats the forces of the consul Pansa, but is then immediately defeated by the army of the other consul, Hirtius. (14. April 43. BC)

Vitellius, commander of the Rhine armies, defeats Emperor Otho in the Battle of Bedriacum and seizes the throne. (14. April 69)

Siege of Jerusalem: Titus, son of emperor Vespasian, surrounds the Jewish capital, with four Roman legions. (14. April 70)

Masada, a Jewish fortress, falls to the Romans after several months of siege, ending the Great Jewish Revolt. (16. April 73)

After the First Battle of Bedriacum, Vitellius becomes Roman Emperor. (17. April 69)

The freedman Milichus betrayed Piso's plot to kill the Emperor Nero and all the conspirators are arrested. (19. April 65)

Battle of Mutina: Mark Antony is again defeated in battle by Aulus Hirtius, who is killed. Antony fails to capture Mutina and Decimus Brutus is murdered shortly after. (21. April 43. BC)

Lucius Marcius Philippus, step-brother to the future emperor Augustus, celebrates a triumph for his victories while serving as governor in one of the provinces of Hispania. (27. April 33. BC)

A sunspot is observed by Han Dynasty astronomers during the reign of Emperor Cheng of Han, one of the earliest dated sunspot observations in China. (10. May 23)

Siege of Jerusalem: Titus, son of emperor Vespasian, opens a full-scale assault on Jerusalem and attacks the city's Third Wall to the northwest. (10. May 70)

Julius Caesar visits Tarsus on his way to Pontus, where he meets enthusiastic support, but where, according to Cicero, Cassius is planning to kill him at this point. (26. May 47. BC)

Germanicus returns to Rome as a conquering hero; he celebrates a triumph for his victories over the Cherusci, Chatti and other German tribes west of the Elbe. (26. May 17)

Siege of Jerusalem: Titus and his Roman legions breach the Second Wall of Jerusalem. The Jewish defenders retreat to the First Wall. The Romans build a circumvallation, cutting down all trees within fifteen kilometres. (30. May 70)
