King Gustav III of Sweden dies after being shot in the back at a midnight masquerade ball at Stockholm's Royal Opera 13 days earlier. He is succeeded by Gustav IV Adolf. (29. March 1792)

The Coinage Act is passed establishing the United States Mint. (2. April 1792)

U.S. President George Washington exercises his authority to veto a bill, the first time this power is used in the United States. (5. April 1792)

France declares war against the "King of Hungary and Bohemia", the beginning of French Revolutionary Wars. (20. April 1792)

Captain George Vancouver claims Puget Sound for the Kingdom of Great Britain. (4. June 1792)

The Brunswick Manifesto is issued to the population of Paris promising vengeance if the French Royal Family is harmed. (25. July 1792)

French Revolution: Storming of the Tuileries Palace – Louis XVI of France is arrested and taken into custody as his Swiss Guards are massacred by the Parisian mob. (10. August 1792)

King Louis XVI of France is formally arrested by the National Tribunal, and declared an enemy of the people. (13. August 1792)

Maximilien de Robespierre presents the petition of the Commune of Paris to the Legislative Assembly, which demanded the formation of a revolutionary tribunal. (16. August 1792)
